Character: Final Environment

Toy Town is complete!

  1. Hi Manisha. I'm going to be a bit direct here. Whilst this is a nice painting it has some underlying issues...

    1) Its not 16:9 / 1.78 ratio. You made the same mistake whilst working in the Narrative project too. The character project is about making a film (character design for film) so there is a standard that you're working too - 1920 x 1080 or a 1.78 ratio. This a size you've made up. So in Photoshop whilst painting you can use a higher pixel size than 1920x1080 as long as its the same ratio. For example 3840 x 2160 (double). In either case you're in year two now and you shouldn't be making such a basic mistake. It's digital painting 101.

    2) Angles: You're drawing is (in the abstract) very horizontal and vertical...The buildings are upright, the tape is horizontal, the path is straight with a slight curve (vertical). This is making your image less dynamic because there are no diagonals and no curves.

    3) Focus: Finally the image is not focused on one thing. Its a collection of things in random places and therefore its hard for the viewer to focus. The focus should be the crime scene which should also be in the center of the image with objects and lighting surrounding it to guide the viewer to the 'action'. Think the event with a pool of light on it. Don't forget when you're drawing you're also directing the scene - you are in essence the director too.

I'm saying this now not to add pressure on to you but its something that will be said in the Crit so bare it in mind.
